Curved work offers a unique set of design choices since most hardwood lumber is flat sawn. The options are cutting the wood to the curve or bending it to the desired radius, which is what we did with this 82" x 42" oval partners desk for Jean Merson of E. Jeannie Merson Interiors.
The Maple hardwood on this desk is a prime candidate for bending as it is a dense, tight-grained wood that can be cut to thin strips without breakage. The base units on this desk are identical in radius and house two file drawers, three standard drawers, two pencil drawers, pull-out writing trays and a front drawer which can be opened from the front or by the receptionist.
